Alpinestars introducing airbag-equipped motorcycle jackets

Fox News November 2014

Motorcycle racers have had access to high-tech airbag-equipped safety suits for years, and more and more of them are becoming available for everyday riders. Systems like the Dainese D-air and Spidi Neck DPS making the transition to the street.

Alpinestars will soon join the fray with its Tech-Air Street system. It’s comprised of a vest fitted with airbags on the chest, back and shoulders and electronic sensors to determine if a rider has crashed that zips into compatible jackets for additional protection.

Unlike the very specific systems designed track riders, the Tech-Air Street was developed to work in just about any environment, from the urban commute to dirt roads, which required an even more complex computer algorithm to know exactly when it should deploy. It’s only not recommended for off-roading that requires knobby tires, motocross or track riding styles. Click Here for Full Article

Five new bikes that upend motorcycle performance

Dan Carney November 2014

Just as the motoring universe has begun to assimilate the incredibleperformance of cars such as the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Nissan GT-R Nismo, it now must prepare for an emerging crop of incomprehensibly fast motorcycles.

Street-legal, two-wheeled hyper-speed is not new; the Kawasaki Ninja 900, Suzuki GSXR1100 and Honda Hurricane 1000 of the 1980s eradicated all prior performance benchmarks for street motorcycles. Such was their potency that a bill calling for their ban was introduced in US Congress. It failed.

Motorcycle performance has since crept incrementally upward, with horsepower for the fastest machines rising by a percentage point or two annually – that was, until 2014, when manufacturers engineered a leap reminiscent of the arrival of those ‘80s bikes. Click Here for Full Article

World’s fastest motorcycle, the Kawasaki Ninja H2, has F1 and aerospace technology

News.com November 2014

THERE may soon be no more need for speed. Kawasaki has just unveiled a motorcycle that is so fast even daredevils are wondering if it is too powerful.

With a design inspired by Formula One motor racing cars and a supercharged engine that uses aerospace technology, the Kawasaki Ninja H2 is expected to blast from 0 to 100km/h in less than 2.5 seconds.

It can accelerate as quick as an F1 racing machine — if riders can hang on to it — because the supercharged engine has almost as much power as a Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatch, but the Kawasaki Ninja H2 weighs barely one-fifth as much as a car. Click Here for Full Article
